Acupressure

"Treatment by pressure"

Acupressure is an ancient healing method that involves applying pressure at specific points on the body. This technique was developed in Asia almost 5,000 years ago. Acupressure is believed by its supporters to relieve pain and to promote health and longevity.

In acupressure fingers are used to press key points in the body to reduce muscle pressure and increase blood circulation. Acupressure is claimed to relieve the body from arthritis, headaches, sinus, spinal and muscular problems. Acupressure is also used as a preventive therapy.

There are two types of acupressure: ‘Shiatsu’ and ‘jin shin’. The former is a firm pressing method and is commonly used while the latter is a softer, more gentle relaxing technique.

Acupressure has its roots in ancient Oriental medical science. It is distinctive as it uses only the thumb for the whole process. The treatment is associated with the theory that fourteen meridian of the human body carry energy in the whole body and that they start at the fingertips and reach the organs via the brain. Pressure is applied at specific points to keep the energy in balance.
