Adept
"The skilled one"
An adept is a person who is considered well versed or highly skilled in a particular discipline. In occult practices it can refer to someone who has achieved true enlightenment, a particular stage of initiation, or level of expertise in magic.
The word comes from the New Latin adeptus, meaning an alchemist who has attained the knowledge of how to change base metals into gold.
Adepts have often been considered a class apart from normal humans, having wisdom to guide mankind. It is said they could prolong their lives.
In the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn, there are two different grades: Adeptus minor and Adeptus major. Golden Dawn had three classes, in which the first one taught students the initial stages of learning magic which led them to the second stage in which they could start innovating as well as learning new magical techniques which would help them reach the final class.
