The Book of Thoth
The Book of Thoth is a mystical book said to contain powerful spells and knowledge. It is thought to have been buried with the Prince Neferkaptah in the City of the Dead.
Legends maintain that the reader of the rolls of parchment would be enlightened about animal languages, become able to cast magic spells, and be able to mesmerize all the inhabitants of the earth. But while enjoying these gifts, the reader would also incur the wrath of the gods and would be punished. Punitive action would include the deaths of those the reader considered dear and loved. This would continue till the Book was returned to its rightful place.
While archaeologists and Historians and Egyptologists try to discern how old the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx really are, the book 'The Orion Mystery' by Robert Bauval has fanned the flames of a belief that these monuments are actually thousands of years older than what is presently claimed by orthodox scientists. It has also been suggested that the Book of Thoth lies beneath the paws of the Sphinx and has been there for the past 12,000 years.
In modern times The Book of Thoth also refers to the tarot card deck and text designed by occultist Aleister Crowley. Slightly dark and masculine, it is a wonderful source of occult circles and theories. The illustrations by Lady Frieda Harris are somewhat shocking and aggressive.
