Human history is rich with stories of mysterious creatures and monsters, from ancient spirits present at the beginning of the Universe to unexplained sightings of unusual animals.
Cryptids
- Abominable Snowman : Alternative name for the Yeti.
- Big Foot : AKA Sasquatch, North-American equivalent of the Yeti.
- Bunyip : Mythological creature from indigenous Australian folklore.
- Chupacabra : Legendary creature said to inhabit areas of Northern and Southern America.
- Flying Rods : Mysterious rod-shaped objects or beings.
- Lochness Monster : Creature said to inhabit the Scottish lake Loch Ness.
- Mapinguari : A prehistoric creature, either ape-like or sloth-like, said to have lived in the Amazon rain forests of South America.
- Mokele mbembe : Lake monster said to inhabit the swamps in the Republic of the Congo and central Africa.
- Mothman : A West Virginia cryptid said to be a grayish-brown 7-foot tall half-human half-bird with enormous wings.
- Nandi Bear : A vicious beast, named for the Nandi people among whom it was reported to have lived in western Kenya.
- Sasquatch : Alternative name for Bigfoot.
- Thunderbird : A magical bird from Native American folklore.
- Unicorn : Horse-like creature with a single horn on its forehead and possessing magical powers.
- werewolf : A creature formed by the transformation of a human into a wolf by the influence of the moon.
- Yeti : Ape-like creature said to inhabit the Himalayas.
- Yowie : A legendary creature said to inhabit the wilderness of Australia.

- Achor : Cyrenean word for Beelzebub.
- Adamastor : Phantom of the Cape of Good Hope.
- Agathodemon : Benevolent spirit, shaped like a serpent with a human head.
- Alastor : Evil household spirit.
- Alberich : Dwarf magician living during the 5th and 8th centuries AD.
- Bacchus : Greek god of wine, celebration and excess.
- Banshee : Benevolent household spirit, said to wail at the death of a family member.
- Basilisk : King of reptiles, said to kill with a glance.
- Beelzebub : "Lord of the Flies", or "Prince of the Devils".

- Cacodaemon : Evil spirit. In medieval times, sometimes used to name the 12th house of the horoscope figure.
