Science & Pseudoscience
Science: A system of knowledge and understanding in which the objective world is represented by theories and models. Also; the industry, people and academic institutions associated with scientific study.
Pseudoscience: Any type of research or conclusion that has the initial appearance of science, but fails to meet the criteria for scientific validity.
In the world of the paranormal there are constant debates over what constitutes real science. More specifically, many theories and philosophies claim to be scientific but are rejected by conventional scientists.
In some cases the field of study is generally accepted as being false. For example, few people still believe alchemy can turn lead into gold. Other disciplines remain popular despite lack of scientific support, for example:
- Astrology: The belief in a correlation between celestial objects and human behaviour.
- Fan death: The claim that fans can cause death when left in a room with a sleeping person.
- Feng Shui: The art of arranging living space in accordance with nature.
