Science Myths: Scientists keep getting things wrong so they can't be trusted
Everyone makes mistakes, from nobel-winning scientists to prominent religious leaders. Good science recognises this and has procedures in place to identify mistakes. This is why it is so difficult to get new ideas accepted by science—because science is very concerned about not letting mistakes pass. Every effort is made to rigorously examine new theories and conclusions to eliminate errors.
In any case, just because some scientists get some things wrong is no reason to distrust scientists in general, any more than it would make sense to distrust all Catholic priests on the grounds that some of them are pedophiles. Each person and each scientific theory should be evaluated on their own merits, not on the shortcomings of other people.
